Wednesday Blues

So I decided that I didn't want to ruin my new table and that the stains were more annoying than I could live with.

Some back story:

A few months ago I was doing some measurements in an office building for a potential remodel and the building maintenance guy was walking me through spaces. As we progressed through the space, the rooms were becoming progressively smaller until we entered a time capsule that was no bigger than the average residential kitchen. The wallpaper was gold in color with a metallic sheen. Printed on it in red velour were 8 inch high fleur de lis. It was shocking to see that wallpaper in such a stoic office building.

Sitting in this office were a sofa, a table, and a few chairs. The chairs were orange molded plastic chairs that borrowed liberally from the Eames design. There were six of them. The sofa was upholstered with red fabric and was three cushions in length. The design was a minimal look, likely modeled after an Edward Wormley design. The table, though, was an original. At the time I had no idea what I was looking at but I knew I liked it and that I needed a table for my dining room. I asked the maintenance guy what he was planning on doing with all this furniture. He replied that he was going to throw it out.

I asked if I could have it and he said I could. When I got the table home I discovered that it was a mid-century table that was made in Sweden. The surface is a book matched European Walnut veneer and the table has a butterfly leaf that unfolds to seat 10.

The table wasn't in perfect shape, the legs has some damage from chairs being pushed into them and the surface has some gouges from pens being pressed too hard as well as oil staining and overall drying out of the wood.

While I could have refinished it myself, I really was afraid of ruining it, so I called a professional. He gave me a quote and now has the table. I'll put up before and afters later.

Fabric for the project chair?

So I'm thinking of going with this fabric for my chair. Funky and fun. The company Modern Fabrics is also awesome. Check 'em out.

Another Project

I inherited this beaut today. I think I'm gonna leave it weathered and replace the back fabric panel with a funky stripe. It'll be my new desk chair in my bedroom.
